Sunday 19th November – bike **** Around Felixstowe – sunny

Again, woke to wall to wall sunshine so after a relaxing morning reading we packed a sandwich and flask heading out on our bikes for the second time in three days:) With Mag not a 100% we didn’t want to go too far and as it was Sunday we decided to avoid the busy prom so took the road to the pretty woods of the Grove. Coming out on Gulpher Road we turned right to see if we could make it to the River Orwell down Marsh Lane but there is a closed farm gate with a ‘Private no footpath’ sign:( So we backtrack a little to a ‘Restricted By-way’ and see where that leads us? It was lovely farm track past cows and Autumn colours with recently set farmland all around:) We ended up on the opposite bank of Kings Fleet to our usual visit and it was full of swans – some flying across the fields too which was a great sight :) We then had to find our way around a large dyke spotting a Hobby and a Reed warbler before coming out on the Deben river path. We sat by the sluice for our picnic with Egrets and Red Shanks feeding in the marshes and were treated to a quick glimpse of a King Fisher:) It was fairly mild sitting here with the highlight being a whole bag of Lidl chocolate raisins for dessert :) With the tide now dropping the waders were returning to the river mud to feed. The sun was disappearing behind some amazing clouds so it was time to head home. Back at Felixstowe Ferry we decided to take the beach route even though it was busy with walkers. We were out well over two hours covering, at a guess, another eight miles - top afternoon:)
